Background
Phosphorix have significant experience in the telecoms, Internet Portal and education sectors.
Phosphorix cut its teeth developing the International Marketing Intranet for the Vodafone Group in a project that lasted around two years.
Starting with seven companies around the world, the Intranet collected weekly data, product and tariff information, as well as the various media campaigns from the companies which made up Vodafone at the time. Software development was rapid and involved an iterative approach to web based application design and in particular user interface modifications.
The final solution was distributed to twenty-four Vodafone companies around the world, allowing them to review and compare marketing information using a company x category matrix.
Following the work for Vodafone we began work on the intranet for Vizzavi, the joint venture company started by the Vodafone Group and Vivendi Universal. This was a Pan-European intranet, consisting of seven Vodafone partner companies each with their own multi access portal [Mobile, Web, Voice etc.]. Our intranet development was such a success that we went on to develop many Management Information Systems and web based interfaces for them. This included the corporate web site content management system, the marketing and suppliers extranet, Human Resources PDP, Short Term Incentive Plan software and the business development teams knowledge base portal.
The work Phosphorix did for Vizzavi was successful because we used rapid application development techniques alongside iterative change management until the customer was satisfied with the end result.
Following the Vodafone Marketing intranet we also began to develop our own software projects. The directors of Phosphorix Ltd were also founders of "Fusion Mobile" and "Wireless Ocean" and remain IPR owners of patents and products developed specifically for the telecoms sector in the areas of location based services and television messaging and remote control via mobile phones. As well as the 'blue sky' laboratory type work, we invested time and money into a range of MIS software libraries and began to focus on our current products: DocHive, CO2, and XMX.
Following the Vizzavi work, Phosphorix development was focused on the Wireless Ocean telecoms products and Phosphorix MIS products. Extensive explorations into the potential for external investment into these products did not yield a satisfactory strategy, so we returned to consultancy with the JISC funded SHELL project.
Phosphorix provided technical expertise to the SHELL project for over two and a half years.
In February 2003, we launched the ioAgent forum (www.ioagent.org). Having identified strongly with the open source philosophy, we launched the ioAgent forum specifically for the education and not-for-profit sectors to provide a generic middleware based on 100% open source components.
